Pallet packing or palletisation is a process in the logistics spectrum which consists of placing goods together on top of a pallet to consolidate the load, making it easier for handling forklift or the lifting equipment to move it. 

A pallet is a horizontal platform made up of mainly wooden/timber panels, provides a base for the products so that the forklift or pallet lifter can pick up and move the load as a whole.

In addition to facilitating transportation, the purpose of palletizing is to protect the goods – from the beginning of their transportation to their destination – and to keep the product in perfect condition until it undergoes the next logistics process or reaches the end customer.

Advantages of palletisation:

• Creating a pallet as a standard unit load for storage has the following advantages.
• Loading and unloading of goods more efficiently: 
• Pallets enable operators (or automated loading docks) to bring in and remove goods from/to trucks in a more flexible manner. This is because handling equipment can stack products and thus reduce the number of movements.
• The flow of goods can be streamlined while installing : Products, stacked on top of pallets, are moved easily throughout the warehouse,this ensures that each and every items reach at the desired space as and when required.
• Palletisation increases safety and security: When goods are stacked in pallets, workesr does not have to move the load individually. This improves the safety aspect for the goods/cargo as well as the workers handling the cargo.
• Inventory Control: Palletizing loads allow each SKU to be monitored more accurately. Since logistics managers know the volume of goods stored on each pallet, at a glance they can get an idea of ​​the level of inventory for each product.
• Storage space optimization: When we talk about storage platforms, the main concepts is scalability of the given space. Various storage systems, whether manual or automatic, make the most of storage space, and of course each has its own advantages and disadvantages.
